Doge will allow Elon Musk to oversee the US government from the inside

As part of the executive order, Doge teams, which “typically include Doge team leadership, one engineer, one human resources professional and one lawyer,” will be posted to various agencies. Granton will have “access to all unclassified agency records, software systems and IT systems,” ostensibly to streamline data sharing across federal agencies.

The USDS form used, who spoke to the engagement on condition of anonymity, called repurposing the digital service “an A+ bureaucratic Jiujitsu move.” But they are said to be concerned that Doge’s access to sensitive information meant to do more than streamline government operations.

“Will this tech talent lean on data from the federal government to track adversaries?” They ask. “Track specific populations of interest to this administration for the purposes it targets them or single them out or whatever that might end up being?”

But Doge’s first order of business seems to be to cut out people in agencies who might be pushing back on the Trump administration’s agenda, starting with existing USD staff, and hire new people.

“DOGE teams have a lawyer, an HR director and an engineer. If you were trying to identify the functions that are going to be cut, the people that are going to be cut, have a director of human resources there and have a lawyer say, “Here’s what you’re going to allow us to do or not do,” Moynihan, a professor of public policy at the University of Michigan , noted that DOGE’s potential access to federal employee data could put them “in some kind of crosshairs to be fired.”

Who exactly will be part of the Doge is a strange tzron problem, since there are technically two axes. One of them is a permanent organization, enhanced by the USDS – damage to the American doge service. The other is a temporary organization with an end date of July 4, 2026. It can sequence employees from other parts of the government and can also recruit people who want to volunteer for the government. Temporary organizations can also hire what are known as special government employees – subject matter experts who can bypass the strict regular federal hiring processes. They are also not subject to the same transparency requirements as other employed government.

At best, this would allow the Doge to move quickly to address issues and fast-track the necessary talent, as well as the systems that make government services facilitate the flow of information and data. At worst, however, it could mean less transparency surrounding the interests of people working on important government projects while allowing possible surveillance.
